Muntadas's proposal is based upon the observation that the microphone is used as a new prosthesis during public appearances. From politician to rocksinger, this object has given rise to a stereotyped gesture, where a closed hand comes nearer an open mouth. The microphone has become an intermediary, a language filter. Mass media produce this irreversible addiction to the prosthesis, while they also are an evidence of it through their daily and permanent broadcasting. Pictures from the written press have been used as raw material for the making of this book. An anthology which also highlights the radical transformation of the portrait as a genre.
